The Process

1. Preperation

First, I'll wrap the handle in plastic wrap. This ensures no accidental staining during the sharpening process.

Second, ensure stones are true and flat! A consistent sharpening angle is key to a quality edge.

2. Sharpening

I'll start with a 220-grit or 400-grit whetstone. This gets the edge started and geometry set.

I'll refine the edge with a 1000-grit and 3000-grit whetstone for softer steels and continue incrementally to 8000-grit or 10,000-grit for higher hardness steels.

3. Finishing

Lastly, finishing the knife on a leather strop with Jeweller's Rouge will remove any additional burr and polish the edge.

A little beeswax on wooden handles keeps them moisturized and sealed from the elements.
